Besa Mwansa is a lawyer by profession, a women’s and children’s rights activist. With over 10 years
work experience in governance (promoting of young women taking up leadership positions), gender,
gender- based violence and human rights. Besa has the expertise to conduct trainings on gender –
based violence, gender related laws and human rights. Her work also centers on legal research; legal
and policy analysis and advocacy for gender sensitive laws. Besa is a Zanele Mbeki feminist
leadership fellow and continues to work towards the advancement of women’s rights and protection
of children’s rights.
Besa Mwansa is currently Executive Director for Young Women In Action (YWA). An organization
that aims to improve the livelihood of young women in Zambia. Her role includes and not limited to;
providing oversight in the implementation of the organization’s projects; providing leadership to the
YWA team; and representing the organization at national/regional and international platforms.
In her leisure time, Besa enjoys spending time with family, reading books and watching movies.
